Area bracing for traffic problems

Motorists in the Wallkill Valley are bracing for some interruptions in their normal traffic patterns that will last through the summer and into fall .
A portion of Route 52 in the Town of Montgomery will close to traffic beginning Monday , May 9 and remain closed until Friday , Oct . 7 . The plan is to close Route 52 from the intersection with South St . Andrews Road to the intersection of Rock Cut Road while the bridge over the Tin Brook is being completely removed and reconstructed .
In the meantime , traffic will be detoured onto South St . Andrews Road ( County Route 85 ), Plains Road , Route 300 , Rock Cut Road and Forest Road .
Part of the detour is the intersection of Route 300 and Plains Road , where the town of Shawangunk recently requested a fully functioning traffic light due to safety concerns and a history of accidents .
The NYSDOT turned down that request , but did make some improvements such as new stop signs and cut and trimmed brush . Currently the intersection is controlled by stop signs and a flashing traffic light .
In Ulster County , motorists are advised that a portion of Route 44 / 55 between Route 299 and Bruynswick Road , in the town of Gardiner , is expected to close at 8 a . m . on Thursday , May 5 , so crews may perform construction activities on
Barring any surprises in the meantime , the Town of Montgomery Planning Board intends to move forward on the Crestwood Services gas storage facility next week .
The project , located at Henry Henning Drive , includes railroad access , which has created a few unique issues during the approval process . During the public hearing before the planning board last week , the applicant ’ s engineer , Ross Winglovitz , spoke of revisions to the initial plans and the addition of an easement , due to wetlands on the property and requirements by the DEC to “ protect the protective buffer ” around them .
The railroad access also means a manual locked switch , allowing operators to change the track to access the parcel .
It was pointed out that the lighting plan is still outstanding — for both the facility and the road — and a stop sign will likely

the bridge carrying Route 44 / 55 over the Mara Kill . Traffic will be directed to follow a posted detour . The closure and detour are anticipated to remain in place until approximately Aug . 5 , 2016 . Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour , and expect delays .
Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices , including signs and flaggers .

be needed on Henry Henning Drive .
The stop sign would mean that vehicles leaving Yellow Freight would now have to stop before heading out . Town Supervisor Mike Hayes stated the stop sign may need a local law , which could extend the approval process .
The planning board will continue the hearing on May 9 at 7:40 p . m . In the meantime , the applicant will work on its lighting plan and the board ’ s consultants will prepare their comments .
In other business , the board agreed to send a letter to the Orange County DPW in support of retaining an existing driveway for the Hanover Estates project .
They also granted approval extensions for the Montgomery Corporate Park and Ponds at Montgomery projects . Ponds , a 14-lot major subdivision , was given its 24th 90-day extension .
