I don’t know how we possibly can,” said Village Trustee Jim Barnett, with regard to passing a budget with a tax increase below the tax cap. Mayor Dennis Leahy stated that he is currently fin- ishing work on his tentative budget and expects it to be ready for filing by Friday. Presenting a couple of different stateaid scenarios at the March 8 meeting, district business chief Mike Pacella pointed out that the expected budget gap ranges from $1,097,417 to $1,989,512, depending upon whether Gov. Andrew Cuomo restores the Gap Elimination Aid that the state has taken away each year. To help close that gap, Pacella suggested new retirement incentives for the Pine Bush Teachers Association, as well as using unassigned fund balance to prop up the budget. As of June 2016, that fund balance was $5,786,036. By June 2016, it is expected to be $7,295,875. Pi represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter. While it is often abbreviated as 3.14, pi has an infinite number of digits beyond the decimal point, starting with 3.141592653. Students in 6th grade participated in a hula hooping competition. 7th graders memorized the digits of Pi for their competition, and the 8th grade contest was to see who can find the area and circumference of different circles the fastest. Winners in each category won the opportunity to “pie” their math teacher, Mr. Florez. With the prospect of warm summer nights right around the bend, locals looking for some fun outdoor events in the coming months are in luck, as the Vision of Wallkill community organization has announced its slate of free summer movies and concerts. At its March 9 meeting in the Town of Shawangunk Community Room, the group discussed its full schedule of entertainment and community service projects for the next six months. The community group, which is now in its third year of existence, will host a trio of films that will be screened outdoors under the stars at Garrison Park.
