Garrett handing over reigns of music series

T
he Grand Montgomery Chamber
Music Series is ringing in their 31st
year with a new director.
Howard Garrett, who started the
free classical concert series, has chosen
Aleksander Vezuli as his replacement.
Garrett started the music series as
a way to offer music to the public in the
Hudson Valley at no cost. Before moving
the series to the Village of Montgomery
Senior Center, meetings were originally
held in Garrett’s house once a week.
“I decided to have a concert,” he says.
“It wasn’t something that was around here.
I wanted something free because I didn’t
think people around here could afford a
lot. I contacted people in Montgomery and
they went along with me.”
After more than three decades, Garrett
thinks it’s time to pass over leadership to
Vezuli.
“I feel that after all these years, it’s
about ti
