Planning Board packed
Concerned residents call for longer review time
Concerned residents packed a Town of Montgomery planning board meeting on June 24 to demand longer review time for Medline and
Project Sailfish documents.
Concerned residents packed a Town of
Montgomery planning board meeting on
June 24 to demand a longer review time
for documents related to the Medline
and Project Sailfish projects.
The Town of Montgomery planning
board is currently reviewing the Final
Environmental Impact Statement
(FEIS) for Project Sailfish and the
Draft Environmental Impact Statement
(DEIS) for Medline.
Both documents are expected to
be completed soon. Residents handed
the planning board 86 signed petitions
demanding the planning board extend
the public comment period for both
documents to 90 days instead of the
customary 10 days under the State
Environmental Quality Review Act
(SEQRA) process.
The DEIS for Project Sailfish was
more then 4,400 pages. Residents said
10 days is not a sufficient amount of
time for review of what will be large
documents.
Medline has proposed a 1.3-million-
square-foot warehouse on the east side
of NYS Route 416 and north of Interstate
I-84, just outside Village of Montgomery
limits. Project Sailfish has proposed a
1-million-square-foot warehouse near
Interstate-84 (I-84) and the intersections
of NYS Route 17K and 747.
Residents have voiced numerous
concerns over impacts to quality of life
for Medline and Project Sailfish, stating
the projects would bring negative
traffic, light, noise, pollution and visual
impacts.
Maher claims
narrow victory
in GOP primary
Former Walden Mayor Brian Maher
won the June 25 Republican primary
for town supervisor, beating out Town
Supervisor Rodney Winchell.
“It is important to me that every single
vote is counted before declaring victory,”
Maher said. “I want to thank Supervisor
Winchell for running
a spirited campaign.
Together we engaged
a record number of
Primary voters and had
important discussions
on issues that matter to
our town.”
Winchell received 621
votes, or 49 percent of
the vote, while Maher
Maher
received 646, or 51 percent for the
Republican primary, according to Orange
County unofficial election results. There
were 1,268 votes. These results do not
include absentee ballots.
Maher has a 25 vote lead with 38
absentee ballots.
Winchell won the Conservative line
over write-ins by five votes. Winchell lost
the Independence line to write-ins.
Ron Feller and incumbent Mark Hoyt
won the Republican primary for town
council, beating Dwight Warrington.
Hoyt and Feller will compete against
Democrats Susan Cockburn and Kristen
Brown for the two town council seats
in the November elections. Maybrook
Mayor Dennis Leahy will also be running
in the November supervisor elections.
“Senator Larkin always taught me
that holding public office is all about
listening to and addressing the needs
of the people.,” Maher said. “ As my
team and I canvassed our community, we
listened to issues that were important to
the voters and discussed ways we could
address them together.”
