Walden collects $1.5 million grant
State finally approves Ulster Avenue sidewalk project

After more than a decade of waiting,
patience paid off big-time for Walden
this month when the New York State
Department of Transportation finally
approved the village’s Ulster Avenue
H ats off to the
C lass of 2018
sidewalk project. The enterprise was 14
years in the making, and at the Village
Board meeting on June 19, Village
Manager John Revella announced that the
state had granted the village permission
to go out to bid for the project, which will
receive $1.5 million in state funding.
The scope of the project will see
sidewalks renovated from Main Street
to the Most Precious Blood school, in
addition to work on curbs, drainage and
the installation of 10 retaining walls.
The state approval represented the final
hurdle for the project, which is now slated
to begin as soon as the bidding process
wraps up. “The project inception was in
2004, and there’s been several different
stages,” Revella explained. “When I took
over in 2010, I helped to get an increase
