Pine Bush honors Odyssey teams and scholar athletes

Prior to a routine Pine Bush School District Board of Education meeting , an award ceremony for scholar student athletes and Odyssey of the Mind student participants from the district was held at the high school .
The June 11 meeting ’ s preceding commemoration honored high school student athletes from spring varsity sports such as tennis , lacrosse , golf and track and field . Students were rewarded for portraying excellence and leadership as a team member while simultaneously maintaining a grade point average of at least 90 percent .
“ This year in total we have recognized 272 scholar athletes for Pine Bush and 15 scholar athlete teams ,” said Director of Physical Education , Health and Athletics Michael Gillespie .
“ Congratulations to everyone involved in this great year and thank you to the administration for the support .”
Pine Bush Board of Education Vice President Gretchen Meier introduced the multiple student teams and teachers from the district for their participation and success in the Odyssey of the Mind program .
The program is a global competition designed to have students solve unique problems , such as “ building a vehicle without wheels , designing and testing a mechanical pie thrower , and making a flotation device that transported them
ShopRite has initiated a voluntary recall of store baked Gourmet Chocolate Chunk Cookies . The cookies were sold in 24-pack , 30-ounce containers in the Fresh Bakery department at the ShopRite of Montgomery , 99 Hawkins Drive , Montgomery .
Affected packages may contain peanut butter cookies , which contain peanuts , an allergen that is not declared on the label or listed in the ingredient statement . People who are allergic to peanuts could experience an allergic reaction if they consume the cookies . No other products sold in the Fresh Bakery department are involved in this recall .
Affected packages bear the UPC bar code 28982000000 and are stamped with a sell-by date of June 25 . safely across a lake ,” according to the Odyssey of the Mind website .
“ Odyssey of the Mind program opens so many doors for students ,” said Meier . “ My daughter got scholarships to college and it has helped pave her way to become an engineer . You just have to keep thinking outside of the box , it will definitely take you places .”
The board also recognized the PBTA and PBTA Retiree Chapter for the work and achievements in the past academic year .
The board approved multiple resolutions presented by Superintendent of Schools Tim O . Mains . Resolutions included the revised Consent Agenda , designation and disposition of surplus or broken gym equipment , overnight trip requests for the summer and the approval of the Monticello girls swim team access to an inter-municipal relationship at the Pine Bush High School swimming pool .
Mains asked those in attendance to honor the Edward J . Russell Elementary School Principal Lisa Burnside , who is retiring and Circleville Elementary School Assistant Principal Daniel Brown , who has accepted a position as a principal elsewhere .
The June 11 meeting also included the approval of the BOCES Cooperative Transportation Board Resolution for the coming year , Bid Awards for 2017 Summer School Transportation and the approval of the Health Services Contract .

“ We are advising customers who purchased store baked Gourmet Chocolate Chunk Cookies at the ShopRite of Montgomery , New York to return them for an immediate refund or replacement ,” said ShopRite Spokeswoman Karen Meleta .
No illnesses related to the recall have been reported .
ShopRite has contacted ShopRite Price Plus Club customers who have purchased this product to alert them to the recall . ShopRite urges its customers to keep their Price Plus Club information updated , so they can be contacted in case of such events .
