Two volunteer firefighters receive FASNY scholarships

Two recent high school graduates , Benjamin Nakagawa and David Burtchell , were awarded the Firemen ’ s Association of the State of New York ( FASNY ) Gerard J Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship .
The summer after 8th grade , Burtchell joined the Cronomer Valley Fire Department in Newburgh as a junior volunteer . He did not wait a second after he turned the right age to join . He describes himself as the kid that was always chasing the fire engines .
In the past four years , his love for volunteering has flourished , evening leading to recruiting his mother as well .
Burtchell graduated from Wallkill High School and will attended Duchess Community College this fall , majoring in Fire Science .
“ I want to be that guy that ’ s 65 and still driving the emergency vehicles ,” Burtchell said about his future . After college he knows he wants to stay in emergency services because he could ’ t see himself doing anything else .
Burtchell is looking forward to getting more in emergency communications and especially becoming a instructor . He wants to train the younger generation of volunteers as he finds training and safety the most important part .

“ I think you guys are off to a great start ,” said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus , adding that he has not seen many towns doing as much as Maybrook has already .
Leahy pointed out that the village has recently welcomed a Montessori school to the village .
“ It ’ s a great benefit to the village , hopefully the beginning of other things to come and will let everyone know the village of Maybrook is open for business and

“ I do it for the little moments that I know made a difference ,” Burtchell said .
Nakagawa has only been volunteering at the Dan Lehorn Engine Company for a year and grew a passion for it . He graduated from Valley Central and is going to attend Purdue University in the fall .
“ I enjoy helping people and giving back to the community ,” Nakagawa said . He likes serving the community so much he will be continuing honored service for the country during and after college .
At Purdue University , he will be studying Aviation Technology and Professional Flight . As a member of the

ready to roll ,” said Leahy . Everyone at the meeting spoke favorably of the village ’ s efforts , offering their support . “ Anything we can do with infrastructure we ’ ll help with it ,” promised Neuhaus .
Leahy said in a further effort to enhance Maybrook , the village board is seeking to pass a law that would allow the eviction of tenants on the grounds of illegal drug use , possession and sale . In addition to eviction , the tenant could face a civil penalty of up to $ 5,000 , plus attorney fees and costs .
A public hearing on the local law is set for July 25 at 7 p . m . at the Maybrook Village Hall . A copy of the proposed law is available at the village clerk ’ s office .

JROTC at his high school , he will also be continuing that with the ROTC program at Purdue University .
After college he is looking to joining the United States Navy and becoming a commissioned officer as well as a naval aviator .
Nakagawa said he is excited to be attending a college with the one of the best aviation program in the country and grateful for FASNY for choosing him for the generous award .
The two young men are two of 15 chosen for the award out of 115 applicants .
Burtchell and Nakagawa are thankful to FASNY for the award and help for their college tuition .

Sara Berlingeri , 31 , of Wallkill , was charged on June 16 with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd and failed to surrender license . She is scheduled to appear in village court on August 10 .
Andrew Card , 33 , of Franklin , NJ was charged on June 20 with aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd . he is scheduled to appear in village court on August 10 .
Alexandra Fortune , 34 , of Walden was charged on June 21 with assault 3rd . She was scheduled to appear in village court on June 22 .
Tara Russo , 25 , of Pine Bush , was arrested on June 21 on a bench warrant out of Walden . She was arraigned and scheduled to return to village court on June 22 .
Eric Thorpe , 41 , of Newburgh , was charged on June 22 with harassment 2nd and criminal contempt 2nd . He was arraigned in village court .
Melissa Dellatore , 34 , of Walden , was charged on June 22 with aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd and operation an unregistered motor vehicle on highway . She is scheduled to appear in village court on July 27 .
Alisha Estrada , 33 , of Walden , was charged on June 26 with false personation . She is scheduled to appear in village court on July 27 .
Melissa McDermott , 32 , of Walden , was charged on June 26 with use of weapons and fireworks . She is scheduled to appear in village court on July 27 .

State Police at Ellenville

The New York State Police at Ellenville arrested Robert Padilla Jr ., a 46 year old from Walden , on July 1 with Grand Larceny 4th .
On June 3 of this year Members of SP Ellenville , investigated a compliant where , Padilla a tow truck operator stole over $ 1,500 from his employer .
On July 1 , Padilla was located and arrested for Grand Larceny 4th . Padilla was processed at SP Ellenville and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Marlborough Court on July 12 .
