Montgomery blaze
Union Street fire attracts 19 companies
Farmhood Fields faces
first public hearing
By LAURA FITZGERALD

Farmhood Fields held its first public
hearing in a contentious Town of
Crawford planning board meeting on
June 27.
The room was filled with people
anxiously buzzing about the project, and
23 people came up to the microphone to
voice their opinion.
The approximately 600-acre agricultural
community would incorporate farmland
and forest with 31 single-family homes on
2.5 acre lots. Members of the community
would buy into the farm, selling
agricultural products off-site.
A fence will run along the entire
property with five gated accesses: two
from Crans Mill Rd, one from NYS Rt
302, one from Andrews Rd and one from
Crosby Ct off County Rd 48.
The project is planned in three phases.
Approximately 12 of the lots need to be
sold before construction begins on phase
two, otherwise the land will revert to
farmland.

Homes at 54 and 56 Union Street in the Village of Montgomery were heavily damaged by Saturday afternoon’s fire.
Firefighters battled blazing heat as
well as smoke and fire, Saturday, in the
Village of Montgomery.
The Montgomery Fire Department
received a call at 3:15 p.m. at 54 and
56 Union St. in the village. The fire
started in 54 and spread to the attic in
56, Village of Montgomery Police Chief
Steven Walsh said.
Pictures of the blaze show smoke
billowing from the top three windows
of the home. 54 and 56 are a duplex, and
while they are not conjoined with the
houses next to them, they are very close,
and the fire didn’t spread to neighboring
houses.
No injuries were reported, although
the homeowner of 56 Union Street
was taken to Orange Regional Medical
Center by ambulance as a precaution.
