event space and restaurant.
The property will be the first non-
urban winery for the metropolitan chain
with locations in New York City, Chicago,
Atlanta, Nashville, Washington, D.C. and
Boston.
The facility will also be the first to aid
in the production of other City Winery
sites along with offering the various
experimental elements of wine and wine
making to the public.
The project will hold its first public
hearing on Jan. 15.
Maybrook, Galaxy Park
receive state grants
Continued from page 1
Galaxy Limited received a $600,000
ESD grant to complete phase one of
the multi-phase project, which includes
preparation of several site pads and an
access road.
With its proximity to Interstate-84
and New York City, Maybrook has the
potential for a great amount of economic
development, Leahy said.
“This site is being recognized as a very
lucrative location for bringing business
into the county and into the town,” Leahy
said.
Leahy hopes the Galaxy project and the
downtown revitalization plan will draw
more businesses into the village and take
the tax burden off residents.
“We’re trying to make a vibrant main
street again,” Leahy said.
Maybrook also received a $24,000 New
York State Department of Environmental
Conservation Wastewater Engineering
Planning Grant (EPG) to complete
an engineering report to evaluate
disinfection alternatives at its wastewater
treatment plant.
The grant will help pay for the initial
planning of Clean Water State Revolving
Fund water quality projects. The ultimate
goal of the EPG program is to advance
water quality projects to construction
so successful applicants can use the
engineering reports funded by the grant
to seek financing through the state or
other funding source.
This is the first year Maybrook
received a CFA grant. The village applied
last year but did not receive any grants.
“Last year we were knocking at the
door, and this year we got our foot in the
door so that’s a big step for the village,”
Leahy said.
Leahy said the village board will
continue to apply for grants through
the next phases of the downtown
revitalization plan.
Maybrook also applied for a New
York State Downtown Revitalization
Initiative Grant earlier this year—a $10
million grant awarded to municipalities
nominated by the state’s ten Regional
Economic Development Councils—but
did not receive it.
