By LAURA FITZGERALD

City Winery Hudson Valley, LLC—a
winey and event space proposed in the
Village of Montgomery—received three
grants through the Consolidated Funding
Application (CFA) totaling approximately
$1.9 million, allowing the urban chain to
expand its wine-making operations.
An approximately $805,800 New York
State Energy Research and Development
Authority (NYSERDA) grant will allow
the project to install solar panels on
existing buildings and a hydroelectric
turbine on the Wallkill River, allowing
the winery to achieve net zero energy
performance.
The winery received two more Empire
State Development (ESD) grants totaling
$1.07 million that will allow the company
to develop and rehabilitate the historic
22-acre Worsted Mills property. The
project will also allow the company to
centralize its wine-making operation.
The project will turn the property
into a fully operational vineyard and
event space that includes a restaurant, a
distillery, tasting rooms, 14 guest rooms,
an outdoor ceremony and performance
areas, and parking for approximately
300 cars and loading areas, according to
Village of Montgomery planning board
documents.
Founder and CEO Michael Dorf said
he hopes to have the winery operational
between August and October 2019.
“The hope is to be making wine this
next vintage,” Dorf said.
Dorf said the first priority of
construction will be the winery, then the

receive state
grants

The Village of Maybrook and Galaxy
Limited, LLC recently received grants
through the Consolidated Funding
Application (CFA), paving the way for
economic revitalization in the village.
Maybrook received a $25,000 Empire
State Development (ESD) grant to
evaluate the feasibility of refinishing and
modernizing a pedestrian tunnel that will
connect the downtown area to the new
Galaxy Industrial Park. The tunnel will
allow residents easy access to walk or
bike to work and will eliminate pedestrian
and bicycling traffic from crossing an
active rail line.
Galaxy Limited, LLC has proposed an
industrial park on 80 acres of rail-side
property in Maybrook that could support
up to 850,000 square feet of industrial and
commercial space. The project includes
light industrial pad-ready sites, an
extension of Main Street over the railroad
tracks, a two-mile road parallel to the
tracks that connects Henry Henning
Drive in the town of Montgomery with
the main street extension and a two-mile
hike and bike path with access to Stewart
State Forest.
Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy said the
project will bring economic revitalization
to a village that has experienced decline
since the Maybrook Railroad closed in
1980.
