The Town of Montgomery recognized five police officers at last week ’ s town board meeting for their service during the past year .
“ Back in May , as you all recall , there was an incident in Maybrook that the police responded to ,” said Supervisor Michael Hayes . “... We wanted to present some citations to the officers that were involved .”
In May , several Montgomery and Maybrook police officers responded to a call at Abbey Avenue in Maybrook . Anthony Bostick , 28 , was wanted for a misdemeanor charge related to a domestic incident and was reportedly suicidal , according to Bostick ’ s girlfriend .
When officers forced their way into the locked residence , Bostick fired a pistol which hit Montgomery Chief of Police Arnold Amthor in the left shoulder .
The shooting was caught on a body camera worn by Montgomery Officer John Hank , who returned fire at Bostick . Bostick was later found dead from a selfinflicted gunshot wound .
Hayes presented Amthor with a Wounded in Combat Award and a Combat Cross for his injuries suffered during the incident in May , which forced him to stay out of work for a few months to recover .
The town board presented both Montgomery Lt . Alex Landolina III and Maybrook Officer Kevin Greany with the Life-Saving Award and Combat Cross . Maybrook Sgt . Michael Maresca was presented with the Life-Saving Award .
“ And finally , for John Hank , officer for the Town of Montgomery , who as everyone knows from the [ shooting ], I don ’ t know if [ he ] could have said or did anything differently under those conditions ,” said Hayes .
Hayes awarded Hank with the Medal of Honor , the Combat Cross and the Life- Saving Award .
The town board also presented Hayes with an award for his role as Town Supervisor for the past 10 years .
Hayes is leaving his role at the end of this year and was given a plaque for his outstanding service and dedication to the town . Rod Winchell will take over the role as Town Supervisor on January 1 , 2018 .
Town of Montgomery Supervisor Michael Hayes is presented with a plaque from all town board members recognizing him for his dedication to Montgomery for the past 10 years . Hayes is leaving his role on December 31 , 2017 and will be replaced with Rod Winchell .
