Toys for Tots Train rolls through Montgomery
The Village of Montgomery held their
annual Toys for Tots event this past
weekend at Railroad Ave.
The event benefited the U.S. Marine
Corp. Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation.
Members and volunteers of the Marine
Corps were also joined by the Valley
Central Junior Reserve Officer Training
Corps (JROTC) to help collect new,
unwrapped toys.
“[This event] seems like it gets better
every year,” said Village of Montgomery
Mayor L. Stephen Brescia. “Mike
Hembury does a great job putting it all
together.”
Hembury, a Village of Montgomery
Trustee, works alongside members of the
Village government every year to put
together the event.
Toys for Tots holds a personal
connection to Hembury.
“I definitely didn’t have this growing
up in the Bronx as a kid,” he said. “I
wanted to see this in the village that my
kids and grandkids are growing up in...
and it’s for the Marines. My brother was
a Marine in 1966 and I did this with him
when I was a little kid. Even though I was
not a Marine, I feel that I still have the
responsibility for it.”
Refreshments were served by Baby
Dahl’s food truck and the Montgomery
community were able to experience a
variety of working railroad equipment
and take pictures with Santa.
