Walden Board takes action on code violations
Two weeks after a string of Walden
residents showed up at a Village Board
meeting and gave anguished pleas
about the commotion caused in their
neighborhood by the deteriorating
conditions at 14 Riverview St., the board
took action to solve the problem at a
special meeting on Aug. 22. After the
property’s landlord, Glen Ramcharitar,
failed to comply in a timely manner with
26 code violations he was served with
three weeks prior, the board voted to fix
up the site at the owner’s expense.
Village Manager John Revella read a
letter at the meeting from Ramcharitar
that stated that the landlord and his wife

Pre-Labor Day school
opening raises eyebrows
By TED REMSNYDER
While most local districts will be
welcoming students back to school a day
or two after Labor Day, Valley Central
is getting a head start on the school
year, as kids will report to classes this
Friday to get their
feet wet for a day
before the normal
schedule
picks
up on Sept. 6. The
district weighed the
early start date and
decided to move
forward with its
plan to get students
into school before
the
three-day
weekend begins.
The scheduling

inconvenience for
local families that
were planning to head out on vacation
for the holiday weekend. “I was at a
PTA meeting the other night and one of
the elementary moms mentioned that
they were going away,” Valley Central
Superintendent John Xanthis said. “We
certainly expect that our attendance
won’t be as good as it is every day.”
If the Friday turnout for the first day of
school takes a big dip, the superintendent
said they would take a second look at the
pre-Labor Day start.

“We’re still
working at
Walden, but
we’ll certainly
be ready to
open.”
