TIMES WALLKILL VALLEY Town to fortify Route 208-84 interchange By TED REMSNYDER The Town of Montgomery is not only poised to fix a bank of broken streets lights at the intersection of State Route 208 and Interstate 84, but the Town Board also took steps to fortify a small stretch of 208 with the approval of a $15,000 maintenance board at its August 4 meeting. The bond will cover road upkeep on a tiny new patch of road on the way to Walden. The modest bond will cover any necessary road work at the site over the next 24 months. The construction on the roadway has already been completed and the previous exit way of the road has been replaced with a patch of grass. “We changed the location of the exit of the road,” Montgomery Supervisor Michael Hayes said. “It used to come out straight where there was a wooden fence, so we just turned it to where it’s more perpendicular to 208. The money is for the next two years if there’s an issue with it. It’s a performance bond, so if there’s a problem with the road in that time frame, the $15,000 is there to defray the cost.” The Thursday meeting featured a light summertime agenda, with the initial session only lasting 10 minutes before the public comment portion of the evening. But the board still managed to resolve a handful of issues, including the approval of a re-worded Intermunicipal Agreement with Orange County pertaining to an equipment deal. “There was some equipment they were going to give to the town, and the IMA had to have updated language for the insurance agreement,” Hayes said. “So we had to go back and have the county insert the language because it’s their document. Once we approve it, we can sign it and give it back to them.” Vol. 34, No 33 3 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17, 2016 3 ONE DOLLAR PBSA performs ‘Honk Jr.’ HV Ribfest Page 14 Page 18 www.WallkillValleyTimes.net A look at the future Thirteen complete Walden Youth Employment Program Members of the Walden Summer Youth Employment Program Class of 2016 pose following last Thursday’s graduation ceremony in the Walden Municipal Building.
