Town promises a fix
for broken street lights
Continued from page 1
administration expects the situation
to be corrected before the summer is
up. “Hopefully it will be fixed soon,”
Montgomery Highway Superintendent
Charles Woznick said. “We ordered the
parts and they’re coming from three
different vendors, and we’re just waiting
for one more part. It should be here within
two weeks. We’re hoping by the end of the
month it will be up and running. We’re
already in contact with the electrician, so
as soon as that part comes in the lights
will be repaired.”
Hayes notes that there are multiple
reasons for the delay in getting the repairs
done, including discussions with the local
utility company. “In the winter time
when it was brought up, they wouldn’t
let you cut the road open,” he said. “So
I had a meeting with Central Hudson
and we walked the whole thing. They
went back and found that we could hook
to another pole. So we won’t have to go
under the road again. So it will eliminate
that connection.”
While happy that the project has
some momentum now, Leahy has been
frustrated with the pace of the light
repairs. “They’ve been out for quite some
time, since the reconstruction of 84 and
208,” he said. “I believe that was back
in 2011. Since the road was completed,
the lights have never worked properly.
I made a phone call a few years ago and
brought it to Supervisor Hayes’ attention
because I had gotten some complaints
from residents, but because it’s not in
the Village of Maybrook, I passed it on
to him.”
In his letter dated February 29, 2016
addressed to Hayes, Leahy laid out the
public safety importance in getting this
matter resolved. The street lights “have
not worked properly since the remodeling
of Exit 5 in the Town of Montgomery
several years ago,” he wrote. “Any given
night, there are at least eight lights that
are not working and have not been for
quite some time. The original approved
plans for this project included adequate
street lights to accommodate safe passage.
It would greatly be appreciated if this
issue is addressed and resolved so the
proper lighting is utilized for maximum
safety.”
While the lights would not normally
be under his purview, Woznick was called
in to help because he was alre
