Walking On Volume 7, Issue 5, Aug./Sept. 2020 | Page 14

Today is the pretty horse day. Model and In-Hand classes abound. They are filled with beautiful walking horses. Not as many numbers as last year in the model classes but respectable numbers in each class. It was good to see Bill Bobo in the winner circle with his pretty Loosed In The Outfiled. Beverly Lamp/Carter was also leading dual winners as was Robert Nelms. MTSU had a gorgeous winner with Royal Raider expertly presented by Jeremy Carlton. A morning filled with beauty and good moving Tennessee Walking Horses. Easy on the eyes and easy on the staff members as we got a chance to sit down and see the beautiful animals. A lunch break gave me a chance to rush back to the motel and get the Tennessee Miller beautiful red dirt out of this old dolls hair! I will be dolled up and ready to go at 4 PM Loving this horse show! Just so you know folks, we were not sure the 42nd International would be a reality until about 11 days prior to the commencement of the show. Mr. Hall put his track shoes on and got er done! The Night section of day four started with flat shod driving. Two very nice examples of pleasure driving horses entered the ring with Caterpillar and Zack Parsons taking the blue. A deserving repeat of the 2019 victory. A large class of All Day Pleasure Youth Riders gave the judges a workout as there was a ring full of good horses. Cheyenne Gardner and Jose’s Leave A Mark walked away with the blue. An early night in bed by 11:38 Whoeeee but needed as tomorrow will be a LONG day. DAY 5. Up and at em bright and early due to anticipation of a long day of youth and 4H competition starting at 9a.m. Upon arrival at the show office, we discovered entries will be lighter than previous years due to COVID which caused our show to be held three weeks later in the year plus the fact that many schools have already started, preventing our riders from coming. Many of our folks have been out of work which also prevented them from traveling here. In spite of all that, our numbers are still very respectable and we greatly appreciate all of the cute young riders who have graced our showring. Our 4H winners received tail bags donated by Victoria Kalosis that were made just for them. We are thinking about having the MTSU people adjust the air conditioning in here this morning as we are just a bit chilly, BUT it surely beats the suffocating heat we have known in an outside ring. Nine elegantly attired young riders showed up to compete in the equitation 12 to 17 class. All did an amazing job. They look so pretty in the saddle and they show their horses excellently. I just wish others would notice how elegant these young riders look as they do not hunch the saddle, bob their heads back and forth, and now they have started shrugging their shoulders up and down ==== a disgusting picture. These young riders look fantastic. Thirteen Young riders made the gate call for the youth canter class. This class is the youth Medallion Class sponsored by the TWHBEA. The medallion class was established to encourage youth riders to canter. There were nine entries in this youth canter class! Awesome! Perhaps some of our older riders need to take a look at the youth. We were pleased to have the TWHBEA President, Margo Urad on hand to present the TWHBEA ribbon. The youth and 4-H classes were once again well filled. Kudos to the international for offering classes to the 4-H members across our United States. If you are a 4-H each member you can show in the 4-H classes free of charge . How nice is that? Another thing that WhOA offers for the youth is the “walk only” class. WHOA established this class several years ago to give exhibitors who were out of the age bracket for lead line but not yet experienced enough to go into the competitive youth classes a class of their very own. The walk only class has become The Darby Oaks crew, all the way from Bushnell, Florida. The Dickie Gardner stables entourage. 14 • Walking On
