WHOA Show
July 5, 2020 • Brownsville, Kentucky
Where to start??? Here we are bright and early at
Brownsville with what proves to be another scorcher
of a day----both in competition and in heat. Again no
one complains about the heat OR the dust, just puts
horse after nice horse in the ring. AND then about 2:30
“we” noticed it was beginning to “sorta” cloud up so
we stepped the pace up and about 3pm here came the
storm from H*%l! Rain---LIGHTENING—gusts of
wind blowing class sheets, judges’ cards AND MONEY
hither and yon!!! Everyone got soaking wet but they just
laughed and continued to bring horse after horse resulting
in BIG classes into the ring!!!! I gotta brag on our
exhibitors---Terry Doyle ---proved he could hang with
the toughest cowboy when that SHARP crack of lightening
and enormous clap of thunder proved to be the
unnerving of his young horse who exhibited some rank
rodeo moves. After that; the lightening quit and it was
just gusting rain ( you noticed I said it was JUST gusting
rain). The Judge, Justin Miller is to be commended
not only for his judging abilities but for his wonderful
attitude----he was in the dust all morning and blown
away and wet in the afternoon. Justin never complained
nor asked to be in the announcers stand ((which by this
time was getting purtee full) GOOD JUDGE---GOOD
SPORT!!!!! Speaking of good sports, Linda Starnes
continued to give out ribbons in the pouring rain and
she kept her smiley face on also. I LOVE going to the
Kentucky shows everyone is so helpful and friendly plus
there is excitement from every direction. Horses strolling
into down town Brownsville---on their own to visit
Dairy Queen ---to the rodeo action provided by Terry
Doyle. Expect the unexpected as you will be entertained.
On Saturday a young couple attended for the first
time, they stopped me and said “We have had SUCH
a good time. We will be back”. Sunday morning saw
them back AGAIN! If you haven’t ever shown in the
Kentucky series I urge you to bring you horses and enjoy
the good times and good friends.
Speaking of helpful, Brad Gregory went out of his way
to help me in any capacity that was asked, Dana Cowels
came back from a delicious---she SAID--- chicken dinner
to help give out ribbons with Brad, Linda and cute
little Ailie Ford. Their assistance was a big help thanks
to ALL. Thank you to Dan Starnes who was setting up
my new ipad until the storm blew in but he did get me
going. Thanks also to dad, Larry for having the show
grounds in the best shape. WHOA appreciates your
help.
So how was the show? WELL! The total number of
entries for the weekend was 555! YEP that is RITE!
555 entries for two scorching hot days and one was a
holiday. Folks, ya just can’t get much better that that.
Excellent judges both days—excellent horses both days--
---excellent show grounds with excellent help---guess it
adds up to an EXCELLENT WEEK END!!!!
My heartfelt thanks to everyone that showed up to
show we could not do this without you. Believe me you
are appreciated!
– Sis Osborne
Ending her youth equine
career, Rachel Cowles
and Els A Poppin did it
in fantastic style, winning
five blue ribbons in
the morning show.
Finley New and Halle
Beard were proud of
their ribbons won in a
12 horse class of 4H riders.
These two were very
helpful running errands
and giving out ribbons.
