my opinion we were doing great! This is always the day
from hades (Sunday can also be in the running for this
title) but the good thing is with the new scheduling the
Judges and a few others could sleep in on Wednesday.
Thank you for this!
Wednesday the staff is rested up and was ready to roll
once again. We were LOVING the new time schedule
that allowed time to snooze.
WHOA loves to provide excitement AND fun for
the exhibitors and their entourage. The WHOA Dog
Show provided just that. Folks love to show not only
for the honor but for the bucket loads of MANNA PRO
canine goodies offered by Jason Bachert and crew. The
Judge for the dog show this year was the honorable
Jodie Bubar, who is also excellent center ring help. Best
In Show was Muchkin proudly owned by Wayne West-
brook and show by Emma Carter. There were several
nice dogs which made the judging difficult but Jodi
sorted them out with skill.
Wednesday night started with the National Anthem
by the Dew Drop Girls who perform on the Dew Drop
Jamboree. Larry Martin is the manager for this oh so
talented quartet.(and thank you for the delicious center
ring cookies YUM)!
The first class of the night was the newly formed and
highly anticipated Maiden Class sponsored by American
National Insurance. In this class for Two-Year-Old Trail
Pleasure Horses, the purse of $7200 was a real incentive
to show. There were wonderful awards for all 14 entries.
I was soooo impressed with the wide array of awards
and the fact that each entry received an award. The win-
ning rider, Kyle Elliott was overcome with emotion on
the announcement of this prestigious win. Kyle rode his
fanny off in the last weeks working toward this moment!
Congratulations to Kyle and the proud owners, Maggie
Moore and Jim Leeks on the awesome performance of
Twenty Four Carrots ML who took home a check for
$2,400!!!!! TheMaiden Class was the talk of the show.
Tami Steinbrecher owns, trains, and loves the Wicked
16 • Walking On
Wolf, the talented sorrel walking machine. They claimed
the Country Country Pleasure A/O/T English or West-
ern class as well as several prior to tonight’s win. Tami is
equally successful with I’m Orion who handily took the
classic All Day Pleasure Class. Congrats to Tami!
Another novel class designed to encourage new
exhibitors is the FIRST TIME RIDERS. Fourteen entries
answered the call. It is encouraging to see so many first
time International exhibitors. Elizabeth Decker piloted
Cash Me Outside to the win for Gordon Atkins. We
hope they ALL return next year.
Jason Morris from Perryville MO aboard San Diego
racked his way to the blue on all three Judges cards in
the Racking Country Pleasure Class. This dynamic duo
caught my eye earlier at the WHOA Show in Missouri
and it was apparent that they have not let up in their
training schedule.
1,300 International entries so far!!! Wow! Thank you
owners, trainers, exhibitors. Keep ‘em coming. The new
computer system appears to be working great.
After a good rest on Wednesday we were ready to
walk on. Lynn MacGregor opened the evening session
with a lovely presentation of the National Anthem.
Buck Naked with Bonnie Carrier in the irons were
“spot on” in the Classic Trail Pleasure Junior Horses
Amateur. Such a delight to see this combo in the ring.
Hannah Myatt had the duo in blue ribbon form. Buck
Naked was victorious in the Championship as well.
Catapillar strolled his way to the victory circle with
Zack Parsons driving. Zack was very handsome in his
attire and the horseshoe around his neck as he drove out
was priceless.
Dangerous Willy proved he is still dangerous to the
competition as he cantered smoothly for BJ Richards
winning the Lite Shod Canter class. BJ put some very
talented horses in the ring all week.
An interesting fact in the Trail Pleasure Two Year Old
class was the fact that Dr. Donnie Hendrick (my Auburn
buddy) raised both the winner and the reserve win-
