I think the girl who is able to earn her own living and pay her own way should be as happy as anybody on earth. The sense of independence and security is very sweet.

Letter From The Editor
Nowadays in the US, female workers earn an average of 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. Even though women have definitely gained more rights over the years and gender roles are not as prominent as it was once before, gender discrimination still exists.
At first, I was really only interested in the topic to see if there was much of an impact on the views of people based on what they wear. With the research I did, I was amazed by the different treatment of women just based on what they wore. I had not realized how important what we wear is in how others see us. It makes sense to me, the initial reflection of a person is their appearance. What a person wears, particularly women, does show some basic idea of their social class and reflects on their standings in society, to an extent. While reading one article, I found it extremely strange that fashion in the 1900s wasn’t as much of a reflection of the women as much as it was of the men they were married to. I was caught off guard by this since it is women’s fashion and not men’s fashion. I almost found it laughable that a woman’s clothing was not a reflection of herself, because obviously she wasn’t the one with a job, and instead a reflection of the wealth of her husband.
