A flapper was considered the New Woman and brought an air of carelessness with them. Their fashion reflected the changes in society under prohibition and the way that people acted in the 1920s.

Women started wearing loosely fitted clothing without any corsets, bobbing their hair and applying heavy makeup. A new generation of women were born, the flappers. Flappers were know as the “New Women”, because they were independent, challenged traditional gender roles, expressed their sexuality, and partied alongside men.
-The 19th Amendment to the Constitution is ratified, giving women the right to vote.
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is first introduced to Congress.
-Nellie Tayloe Ross becomes the first woman elected as a governor in the United States.
-Margaret Sanger opened the first birth control clinic, Rebecca Latimer Felton became the first women appointed to the Senate.
-Women compete for the first time in Olympic field events.
