I first got introduced to Hemingway on a visit to Key West where we just happened to take the Hemingway House Tour. I fell in love, hook, line and sinker. Since then, I have read his books, watched every movie about them and his life and have been known to go out of my way to use a few quotes here and there.
Cuba is a place that I’ve only read about or watched movies about. I never thought I would ever see this place and so thankful I did. This was not a cheap visit by any means. The cruise line mainly takes care of the paperwork and you are stuck on one of their smaller cruise ships that you would normally pay a fraction of the cost if you were visiting the Caribbean. Yes, I'm a cruise snob. I admit it. When visiting Havana, do not expect the same treatment and attention you would normally get on a cruise to Cozumel or Grand Cayman. This place is not hussied up like those destinations catering to American tourists. Yes, I used the word “hussied”. Stepping off the boat, it is definitely like all the pictures you have seen with 1950’s colorful Chevy’s and multicolored buildings in many pockets of Havana.
