Some History

The anniversary celebrations in June will be big!

So follow the official City Jazz Grenada page on Facebook to stay updated on the upcoming events.

City Jazz began in June 2008 as an initiative of the Grenada National Museum. It was created as a small attempt to fill a big void in the entertainment sector, where there was waning enthusiasm in the performing arts. In response, CJ became an intimate stage where seasoned performers and developing artists alike can feel at home, whilst using the opportunity to develop their craft and contribute to a cause bigger than themselves.

10 years, 400 songs, and 800 poems later, the event is still thriving. Performances have included, dance, theater and storytelling; but at its core for a long time was a jazz-themed music entertainment led by Algernon Belfon, and some serious poetry by members of WAG. The likes of Alesia Aird, Kareem Alexis, Christel La Guerre, and Jeverson Ramirez have all graced the makeshift CJ stage on their way to greatness.

City Jazz has been described as magical! Sometimes we laugh, cry, or just sit open-mouthed in amazement as we bear witness to the unbridled artist inside each of us. We know now that life itself is poetry and we can all add our own stanza.
