Museums & History- For over 10,000 years, the Dakota tribe have revered Lake Waconia, once known as Meday Wa Ko Ni Ya, meaning“ lake of the spring” or“ life-giving lake.” Early settlers adopted this significant name, which evolved into“ Lake Waconia.”
Incorporated as a village in 1880, Waconia blossomed into a sought-after summer destination with the development of Coney Island and the arrival of the Great Northern Railroad in 1886. Today, you can visit the Carver County Historical Society to learn all about the history of the area.
