ith a schedule like this: Wind Symphony, dual
credit English Composition, AP Statistics, AP
Calculus BC, AP Government, and AP Chemistry, one would assume sixteen-year-old Patricia Betonio
would be exhausted with all of the extra work and want
her summers off to relax. Not this talented young lady,
instead she applied for and earned a summer-long medical
internship with the Cleveland Clinic as a researcher at the
Lerner Research Institute.
After being rejected as an intern for the summer of 2012,
Patricia instead volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic three
times a week filling stock and working in patient transport.
During this time she met Dr. Steven Rosenblatt, a General
Surgeon at the Clinic, who invited her to shadow him and
witness several surgeries. This combined with the fact that
she won the Junior Ambassador Program Scholarship,
boosted her confidence and fue
