District Purchases Eaton Building for a STEM School

The Board made an official offer for the purchase of the Eaton building on Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills. The building will house the new STEM school which is scheduled to open for the 2015-2016 school year serving students in grades 3—5. STEM schools promote science, technology, engineering and math as the foundation of the educational program. The plan is to add a grade level each year until eventually the program serves students in grades 3–12. During the next 18 months, much work will be done as a team works to develop the vision, mission, and design principles that will set the stage for an innovative and progressive educational opportunity for students and staff. Throughout the planning process, the community will be kept updated on the progress. With this purchase, the district has initiated plans for the closing of Washington Elementary and the redistricting of Washington students to Longfellow and Jefferson Elementary Schools.
