Softball is big in Sitka, even with more than 90 inches of rain a year. In 2025, the Sitka High School Wolves baseball and softball teams both brought home State Championship titles, a proud moment for the community. With a state-of-the-art field and a new scoreboard donated by Holland America Cruise Line, Sitkans continue to invest in the game, keeping it one of the town’ s favorite pastimes.
For some, Mudball is a lifelong tradition. Sitkan Sid Kinney, pictured at left, first played in the tournament as a teenager, and more than two decades later, her three daughters now cheer her on at bat. Concessions may change from year to year, but the heart of the weekend hasn’ t: friends in the bleachers, familiar rivalries on the field, and the unmistakable camaraderie of a community that loves the game.
