VPHS U14B Captain, Abigail Pitie, wished to add the following: “ Once the whistle blows for a game, we are ‘men’ – one of our motivational sayings before the matches. We have made fond memories of our “yes, yes, yes” to our hilarious leg swings and our crazy performance of our war cry; but most importantly, our super-coach-wonder-lady, Mrs Nel. Thank you for an amazing season. “Who are, who are, who are we? We are Under 16 B!” U14A Back Row: Jessica Coleman, Gina Tomlinson, Kyra Ikin, Micayla Westraad, Caitlyn Bradfield, Nicole Speelman Front Row: Liselihle Tize, Unam Malgas, Mrs van der Merwe, Julia Morgan, Miss Kohne, Zukhanye Yako, Mellissa Elliot The u14B girls started the season off poorly but after some bonding and getting to know each other they grew, not only as a group but most importantly as individuals. The season had a few ups and downs with injuries and losing a few players but the girls managed to push through. When looking back at the season, we managed to draw most of our games and only lost to our biggest rivals, but all in all it was an enjoyable and good season. Back Row: Kayly Wallis, Sasha-Lee Schmidt, Mikayla Kaschula, Jessica Warren, Danielle Billson, Jami Fraser, Chané Cox Front Row: Sanelise Mavata, Azola Fumba, Mrs T. van der Merwe, Lauren Wienand, Ms. B. Köhne, Caitlyn Bowers, Carley Benjamin Shannon Jones (coach) This season with my team of girls was definitely a highlight. Astro practices were a huge amount of fun and it was great to see their improvement on the turf. There were some alarmed faces when the word “fitness” was mentioned, but we all had fun and made the best of it while doing squats and running doggies. We didn`t win every match, but there were some very pleasing scores. We do owe it all to our coach, Lynn Prinsloo, as she has taught us so much about hockey skills, but more importantly, how to enjoy the game. With her smiling face on the sideline, giving us guidance and encouragement, it was not possible to have a bad attitude. She has been a huge inspiration and role model to me and the team. We will definitely miss all the laughs and good times we had in our U/14A hockey team, but we will take all the memories with us wherever we go. Jami Fraser 163
