Are Backpackers the most Eco friendly travelers?
By,D.G. Nadeeka Thamara ackpackers, referred to also as Hostellers (especially in Australia and New Zealand), are people who travel on a budget, often changing city every few days. They tend to travel for long periods, with the minimum equipment they require, since after all they have to carry it on their shoulder. They usually travel by train, bus or even hitch-hike, and are looking for a difference experience of the places they visit from the average tourist. They usually are keener on learning about the actual lifestyle of the people of the country they're traveling in, rather than just sightseeing. Monopolizing on this experience of lifestyles, many of these backpackers have taken a year or more off just to travel the world and experience what it has to offer. But most of the countries such as Sri Lanka did not pay their attention towards to the encouraging backpackers to our country. Because of as other travelers they did not contributing to create more income for the tourism industry. Normally backpackers are identifying as cheap-skates. They do not like to expend their money on luxury lodges to accommodate, for comfortable transportation, expensive foods and on expensive tour guides. But these things are the main factors that are contributing to gain foreign exchanges to the country. That's why some countries tend to take actions to discourage backpackers for their countries.
