Celebration of the Classics a Description of Summit's Beloved Annual Tradition By Maliah Bricking Every year, the Summit Latin Club hosts an event called the Celebration of the Classics. The Latin Club welcomes Latin and Greek students grade 6-12, families, and friends who take other languages; this year we had a record turnout!. This event focuses on students' studies regarding one of four ancient texts, the Metamorphoses, the Aeneid, the Odyssey, or the Iliad. This year, students worked diligently on projects that they definitely did not wait until the night before to start (we hope). At the Celebration of the Classics, the projects were beautifully displayed in Knights Hall for all to see. Along with viewing the variety of graphic arts projects, students had the opportunity to watch some of the multimedia video projects their classmates created. One of these glorious videos was the (almost) complete retelling of the Aeneid by the Honors Greek class, a group of seniors who loved Latin so much that they decided to learn a new alphabet to continue their classical education. This movie starred THE OJCL President Ryan Burns as Aeneas and followed his journey from Troy to Italy. A film critic and totally unbiased member of said Greek class (me) gives the film a ten out of ten stars and believes that it is definitely in the running for an Academy Award.
