NILDE IOTTI( 1920-1999) She was perhaps " the most important " among women in Italian politics. After graduating in letters he became a teacher, but soon left the profession to devote himself to politics. He took part in the Resistance, where many partisan bands fought against the Nazi-fascists. Nilde Iotti came into contact with the communist side and in 1943 she started to collaborate with them, becoming a partisan and carrying leaflets, food, medicine and woolen socks on her bicycle. She also actively participated in various battles for the recognition of women’ s rights, for example in the struggle for liberation through the Groups for the defence of women, until she became president of the Union of Italian Women.
She had a very difficult private life but her strength and determination allowed her not to be influenced by prejudices. She personally brought about enormous socio-political progress, pushing for a new role for women in the state and society and fighting for her complete emancipation. Her struggles for the freedom and rights of all, but especially of all women, and her exemplary sense of the state and institutions make her an example to be remembered and respected.
