(CSE) the focus of our
emergency appeal for
donations this year?
Helping vulnerable children
and young people escape
the nightmare of abusive,
exploitative relationships is
a real priority for us, because
the children caught up in
these dreadful situations get
so little help.

As this is the first Volunteer
News and Views of 2014 I
wanted to share some of our
exciting plans for this year:
The Marsh Trust
Awards 2014
To crown our volunteer of the
year, we will be running the
Marsh Trust Awards scheme
this Spring. With awards for
young volunteer of the year,
retail volunteer, innovation
and dedication; and equality
and diversity too, don’t miss
the chance to nominate your
colleagues and give them the
recognition they deserve. Your
Volunteer Advisor will tell you
more soon.

Why did we decide to make

The way forward for
our Children’s Services
volunteers
Our new Children’s Services
volunteering strategy aims to
improve volunteering activity
within Barnardo’s.
This year, we’re horrified
to report a shocking 34
per cent rise in victims of
CSE seeking support from
our specialist services. We
are struggling to keep up
with the sheer numbers of
children who need us now, so
we are asking our supporters
for some extra help.
Help us support
the unsupported
Our brand new TV advert,
themed around courage, also
showcases our work with
victims of CSE.
The thinking behind the
campaign? Well, for some
children suffering abuse,
neglect and trauma, we are
the only support they have. We
are the only ones fighting for
them and giving them hope
for the future.
We want to make sure all our
volunteers are supported so
we can identify and develop
your skills, and offer you more
volunteering opportunities;
tailored volunteering roles;
and rewarding volunteering
programmes.
We are confident that the
whole volunteering sector in
Barnardo’s will benefit from
this new strategy. Watch this
magazine for more details!
As ever, thank you for
volunteering for Barnardo’s.
Your support means the world
to the children we help.
