Multiple Troop Cookie and MagNut Program Procedure The Girl Scout Cookie and Magnut Programs are vital to GSWPA’s mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Funds raised through the Cookie and MagNut Programs help pay for a girl’s participation in Girl Scouting. When girls participate in the Girl Scout cookies and MagNut programs they develop the following 5 skills:      Goal Setting – setting an attainable goal Decision Making – deciding how to use the proceeds People Skills – interacting with the public during booth sales or when approaching customers Business Ethics – taking orders and delivering them on time Money Management – making change and keeping a record of customer payments Girl Scouts may participate in more than one troop. Girl Scouts participating in multiple troops during either MagNut or Cookie product programs will have a designated primary troop in which initial orders will be placed. The primary troop will be the troop in which the girl membership dues are paid and cannot be a special interest troop. An individual girl (Indie) cannot participate as an individual member and also be a member of a troop. This follows IRS guidelines. Girls cannot benefit from program rewards and troop proceeds at the same time. To facilitate girls’ ability to sell Girl Scout cookies and MagNut in support of multiple troops, the following procedure must be followed: 1. Girl Scouts participating in multiple troops may participate in the Cookie and MagNut Programs and have proceeds split evenly among those approved GSWPA troops. 2. The proceeds of the initial packages of cookies or total product in MagNut sold by the Girl Scout will be split evenly among the various GSWPA troops she is a member. The proceeds from those packages or product will remain within each troop. Booth sales will be entered and credited to the sponsoring troop. 3. Girl Scouts participating in multiple troops during the Cookie Program may combine all packages sold to receive high level recognitions if the total is equal to 1,000 or more. 4. The Multiple Troop Designation Form must be completed and signed by the Girl Scout, her parent/guardian and leaders of all troops the girl participates and sent according to the directions on the appropriate form. 5. The Girl Scout’s primary troop will pay the total amount owed for that troop plus any proceeds that are due to the other troop, for the product that is to be divided equally. Product Sales will then send the amount that is due from the proceeds to the other troop. 6. All proceeds are to be used for the benefit of all girls within the troop equally. Monies earned by the troop that are earmarked for individuals within a troop is a violation of our IRS tax guidelines. Under no circumstances will troop funds be distributed to any individual in cash or used for any activity other than a Girl Scout activity. 7. If a girl transfers to another troop during the year, no proceeds follow the girl. 8. Troops may participate in additional money-earning activities as outlined in the Additional Money-Earning Activities Procedure. This procedure can be found in Volunteer Essentials.
