AS MR . SHIRLEY ’ S CLASS CONCLUDED THEIR GENETICS UNIT , STUDENTS IN # ROOM70 DETERMINED WHETHER OR NOT THEY COULD TASTE PHENYLTHIOCARBAMIDE , PTC FOR SHORT , TODAY . FROM THIS ACTIVITY , STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO PREDICT POSSIBLE GENOTYPES BASED ON THEIR OBSERVED PHENOTYPE . THEY ALSO COMPLETED A PUNNETT SQUARE TO ILLUSTRATE TO POTENTIAL ALLELE COMBINATIONS IN FUTURE OFFSPRING .
MRS . BROWN ’ S CLASS HAD SO MUCH FUN SOLVING PERCENTAGES AND TRYING TO FIND FOUR IN A ROW . STUDENTS USED THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF UNIT RATE , PERCENTAGES , AND FRACTIONS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND RACE WITH ONE ANOTHER TO GET FOUR IN A ROW .
Many of our middle school students participated in varsity band competition this weekend with SEHS . They didn ’ t receive actual scores , but all comments from judges were excellent . We are so proud !! Thank you , Melanie Williams and Shanna McDonald for the photos and videos !
Our crosscountry team did great this weekend . Every middle schooler for SE made a new personal best ! Some of them beat their old times by more than 4 minutes . Those are HUGE gains for runners . Way to go , Tigers !
