One Step at a Time

Dr. John-Mark Cain

Lauderdale County School District

Superintendent

We have had a busy back-to-school month.  Our teachers and administrators have been training on new programs and approaches to improve classroom instruction.  Our students have been busy getting acquainted with new teachers, athletic contests, and the ever-present Covid-19 that we still find among us. all.

Each new school year is filled with excitement and hope for a great year.  But that takes hard work from everyone; the bus drivers, the custodians, the child nutrition employees, teachers, coaches, administrators, parents, and most importantly, our students.  We all play a role in making our schools successful for all.  There will always be obstacles, such as the recent hurricane and the closure we faced.  We introduced temporary masking to help keep our number of quarantines to a minimum so we could provide traditional face-to-face school to as many of our students as possible. What such events teach us is we cannot control all the events in our lives. We can only choose how we respond to them.  And how we respond to these events determines the outcomes.

We are blessed in the LCSD to have such great people teaming together to work hard for great outcomes. As we move forward, we know we will face more events out of our control, more tragedy will be possible, more acts of nature that cause disruption to our day.  With each event, our LCSD family must be ready with resolve, determination, and commitment to take the next step forward.
