What obstacles did you overcome to get to where you are today ? I could write a book about all of my obstacles ; one day , I am optimistic that I will . You name it ; I lost it . I had to start over countless times . I often give speeches about the consequences of consciousness , and in that speech , I discuss how leading with morals as opposed to leading with the love for money has far more losses than wins . I was and still presently overcome any obstacle because everything I do is centered on my purpose .
What inspired you to become the woman that you are today ? Since elementary school , I have spoken up for others ; I was always the spokesperson to say what others would not say . Growing up , I did not know anyone in politics , or anyone involved in the social justice and political communication space . I was born this way , specifically for this purpose . I do not aspire to achieve a certain level of status ; my only goal is to please my creator by staying true to my purpose .
Tezlyn currently serves as a Senior Political Policy and Media Consultant for America ’ s most high-profile civil rights leader , Attorney Benjamin Crump . In this role , Tezlyn has led crisis communications , media relations , and political strategy for high-profile national cases including but not limited to the George Floyd Case , the Breonna Taylor Case , the Flint Water Crisis , the Orlando Pulse Shooting , the Officer Holtzclaw Rape Case , the Tulsa Monroe Bird Case .
Tezlyn also serves as a Senior Advisor for the George Floyd Foundation .
What would you define as a Woman Warrior ? The definition of a warrior is a brave , experienced soldier or fighter . I believe that bravely is an instinct that you are born with . However , bravery doesn ’ t necessarily translate to wisdom ; that is where experience comes in . I found that once I combined my bravery with knowledge , wisdom , and understanding , it was much easier to fight battles head-on . I wasn ’ t victorious in every battle , but I won because at least I had the heart to fight .
What are your current endeavors and future goals ? I pray I live long enough to watch my only child grow up healthy and have all of the opportunities I did not have growing up . I pray I leave the world a little better than I found it , and when my time on earth has expired , I want to hear my creator say , ‘ well done you withstood the test , whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine , you did for me .’
What word of advice would you like to share ? My advice is to be careful who you take advice from ; Yes , it is ok to listen to various opinions but always remember that your purpose is not their purpose . We are all unique and created for various reasons , so dig deep and discern your purpose and allow that to be your guide . n
