ulie Broughton is an anchor and meteorologist with News 6 in Orlando . You can see her anchoring the 9 a . m . and 4 p . m . Newscasts every weekday . Julie also features teachers , students , and organizations making a positive difference in her Getting Results in Our Schools Segment . She loves entertainment news and has interviewed celebrities like Lance Bass , Wayne Brady , Scott Stapp and Neil Brown , Junior , all of whom have strong Central Florida ties .
Julie jokes she is a “ retired meteorologist ” after transitioning from the green screen to the anchor desk in 2015 . Julie lives in Orlando with her daughter Isla and her goldendoodle Jake .
What would you define as a Woman Warrior ? I think all women are warriors , simply because of the many roles we all fill in our daily lives .
What Obstacles did you overcome to get to where you are today ? My biggest obstacle has been navigating single parenthood with a demanding career . No one plans to get divorced and navigate life on their own , but when presented with these challenges , we figure out how to make it work . When my daughter was four years old , I worked the 3 a . m . shift five days a week . There were days the overnight nanny didn ’ t show up , or my daughter would wake up crying as I had to leave for work . Working through those tough times made us both stronger and makes me appreciate working “ normal ” hours now .
What inspired you to become the woman that you are today ? I don ’ t necessarily think anything inspired me so much as I was put into a pressure cooker and this is the result . But we can all probably say that , right ? We don ’ t necessarily choose our circumstances but can choose how we respond . to share stories that help get results and that ’ s why I do what I do . Moving forward this year I have some exciting entertainment related projects coming , so stay tuned ! How do you like that for a tease ?
What word of advice would you like to share ? My biggest piece of advice is to live authentically , regardless of what society thinks of those choices . For women there is so much pressure to be married and have 2-5 children . If that doesn ’ t rock your world , like it doesn ’ t rock mine , don ’ t do it . People will think about your life choices for about two minutes before getting back to obsessing over their own lives . n
