Infinite Scholars Program Responds :

DOES BLACK EDUCATION MATTER ? by Laura Dorsey

ou have read and heard all of the headlines . Asthma , hypertension , diabetes , and heart diseases are risk factors for COVID-19 fatality in the minority community . This community is contracting and dying from the novel coronavirus at rates that double and triple those of other races . Some of the explanations for the disparities include financial and health . These are the same people who are more likely to be essential workers and find themselves uninsured and at the bottom of the economic brackets . In exposing the racial and wealth gap , the academic achievement gap also has to be taken into consideration . Every facet of higher education will be disrupted . Black and Brown families , disproportionately represented by COVID-19 , will inevitably also be impacted by their ability to educate their children at institutions of higher learning .
The virus will have a significant impact on college admission , a process that should not discriminate , but inherently does so . Last March , the admissions scandal opened the nation ’ s eyes to many inequities on the road to college acceptance , and one year later , we are faced with another issue of access and equality . So , what can parents and students do ? Does Black Education
Matter ? That is the very question that the Infinite Scholars Program ( ISP ) was asked , and this is how we responded .
Infinite Scholars Program is dedicated to leveling the playing field by eliminating the natural advantages that wealth and privilege have to the admission system . ISP has one mission , and that is to provide all deserving students , especially financially disadvantaged students and students of diversity , the guidance and access to financial resources they need to further their education and pursue degrees at institutions of higher education . All of the services are provided FREE to students and their parents . To combat the issues of COVID-19 , which have limited such things as in-person visits to college campuses , we have partnered with moreCollegeOffers . com for virtual admissions and scholarship offers .
