IN REMEMBRANCE : ALBERT GEORGE GOLDIN , MD MAY 22 , 1923 - JULY 28 , 2020

Doctor Albert George Goldin was born in Lima , Ohio

May 22 , 1923 and expired Tuesday , July 28 , 2020 . He was graduated a proud Buckeye from The Ohio State University in 1943 . He matriculated in the University of Louisville School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society . The Doctorate of Medicine was conferred on him in 1946 . He completed a general medical internship and a clinical pathology residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital in Michigan and returned to Louisville where he completed an internal medicine residency . He then completed a fellowship in cardiology at Louisville General Hospital in 1952 , obtaining his board certification in internal medicine in 1957 .
From 1952 to 1954 , in Korea and Japan , Dr . Goldin served his country in the US Army Medical Corps where he rose to the rank of Captain . On completion of his tour of service , he again returned to Louisville and began a successful private practice in internal medicine from 1954 to 1992 . During these years , he mentored many physicians of the city and was an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine . He had hospital privileges at Jewish and Norton Hospitals and served as Chairman of Medicine at Methodist Hospital for a time . Dr . Goldin wrote a book titled Your Guide to Care of the Heart and had 15 articles published in peer-reviewed journals . He encouraged his colleagues to assist treating the medically frail and indigent .
Dr . Goldin is survived by the love of his life , his wife of 69 years , Anita Ades Goldin ; his children , Joyce Goldin , Louisville and Dr . Harry Goldin ( Jane Kaplan ) Evanston , Illinois ; his grandchildren , Mark Palgy ( Lindsey Carter ) Louisville , Jacob Goldin ( Dr . Deborah Schwartz ) Menlo Park , California , and Elise Goldin , Brooklyn , NY ; and his great-grandchild Naomi Lorelei Goldin .
Dr . Goldin was an active member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun . He loved the Yiddish Language and led a Yiddish speaking group at the Louisville Jewish Community Center for many years . Shabtai Zvi : The Man Who Believed He Was the Messiah , a Yiddish novel , was made available to the English speaking by Dr . Goldin ’ s translation in 2007 . Dr . Goldin was an accomplished clarinetist , passionately attached to Klezmer music , and he organized and participated in the River City Klezmer Band .
