Life gets busy, and hectic, and we tend to forget to slow down and enjoy the little things.
Although I wasn’ t sure if my schedule would allow me to accept the Green Country APBTC Top Dog judging assignment, I’ m glad that God answered my prayers and things fell into place.
Upon arriving at the show grounds in Dewey, OK, I was able to see our sweet little cover girl, Sterling. I am not good at keeping secrets, so it was hard for me not to tell them she was selected as our cover contest winner!
Watching all the kids run around- cleaning up trash and scoopin’ poop when asked, anxiously awaiting the event to begin and knowing which dog is which, selling raffle tickets to help the club raise money- it reminded me of my own kids growing up in the dogs. I’ m optimistic knowing that the next generation will continue to promote these dogs in a positive light and our sanctioned events will continue for generations to come. They are being led by example and I see their parents who have the same work ethic.
These events take a lot of work, and everyone is volunteering their time and equipment. Sometimes things go off without a hitch and other times we must punt … the most important thing to remember is this is how we learn, grow, and overcome obstacles. It makes it easier when everyone in attendance has a positive attitude and great sportsmanship. That was present in Oklahoma! I heard more than once what a fun event it was, and I couldn’ t agree more.
I look forward to mentoring those who want to achieve their Top Dog sanctioning. It’ s a growing sport and we need more judges! More judges = more events = more clubs willing to host them. As the numbers of these events continue to increase it will be great to have judges work in unison to streamline the TDAE.
As we wrap up our 4th issue of our 50th anniversary, THANK YOU to all our readers and subscribers!
