We met at the Black Spur Inn on a cold frosty
morning for our first trip out since the easing
of COVID-19 restrictions. After greeting each
other with appropriate social distancing we
aired down.
Rob had not encountered tracks this slippery
before so was enjoying practicing the skills
learnt in the Advanced Driving Course.
We headed along Western Tk, which is a roller
coaster ride of wet red clay, which kept
everyone concentrating. Then we had lunch at
Buxton Silvergum Reserve and said goodbye to
Rob and Curtis, who had a BBQ to go to.
After leaving the carpark it was only a couple
of minutes along Roach Rd, off Maroondah
Hwy that we encountered our first fallen tree.
Luckily I had packed the chainsaw.
Despite the recent fine weather the tracks
were still very wet and slippery and
momentum uphill was essential, with driving
through the brakes necessary to stay on the
track when driving downhill.
