People have been asking us what that ’ s for ( was it for the Major Mitchells to perch on ? Was it a nest for Pygmy Possums ?), and we haven ’ t been able to answer . We were told by George Agar that it was part of some sort of radio antenna .
We now have the answer , courtesy of David Turner , formerly communications manager of the Victoria Fire and Emergency Service . He says it is an HF radio antenna ( the only communication EBO had in the early days ). It has two ‘ wings ’ of a particular length to match the frequency of the radio waves . The piece of PVC pipe is an insulator , to cut off the conductance to the supporting wire , which goes to the pole .
Sheena cooked the large snapper on the BBQ [ pic ] and prepared the 1.4kg crayfish , which were both donated by Vince the fisherman a while ago . Once again , we had a very enjoyable evening on the verandah . Even better , we didn ’ t have to do any dishes while this big group was here , and they cleaned up everything before they left . What a treat for us !
The weather was very changeable throughout the day . Initially , it was cloudy , windy and pretty cool . Then , the sun came out for a while before it got cloudy again . This time , it was quite warm under the clouds . In the evening , it was still and very comfortable to sit outside .
