We took a leaky tyre up with us , and the guys at Cocklebiddy repaired it . All our shopping arrived this week – thanks Mary ! On the way back , we did a snail hunt , and bird atlas count , near the Microwave tower – on the old Haig Track . We did not have much luck on either count
We were wondering about why the Haig Track was called the Haig Track – who was Haig ? However , now we know . We looked at a larger map with one of our guests , and found that the track goes about 200kms north , up to Haig on the railway line . Still don ’ t know who Haig was though : - ) Research project for a rainy day !
In terms of wildlife , we saw a pretty butterfly and a couple of mallee dragons .
Our guests got back safely from Twilight Cove . Boy did they have some luck ! They saw a pod of dolphins , a seal , two sting-rays and various birds .
Now to one of the Eyre mysteries . Just outside the verandah , a wire leads from the house to an old telegraph pole behind the outside dunny . It also goes right over the top of the chimney to an original wooden telegraph pole on the other side of the house . Half way along the wire to the dunny is a foot long section of PVC pipe .
