In 2015 , I led a cub trip to Albany WA for the Centenary Celebrations of Anzac Day . Albany was where all the Troup carrying ships left from ( October 1914 ) for the Gallipoli Campaign . On the way across the Nullarbor we stopped at the EBO for a few days , it was one of the highlights of our trip .
Below is the blog written by the volunteers who were looking after the place at that time ( which has recently been found by David Turner ). The volunteers are there for 3 months at a time . We thoroughly enjoyed their company and I think they enjoyed ours .

This blog tells the story of our period as caretakers of the Eyre Bird Observatory , in the Nullarbor region , on the South Coast of Western Australia . The Eyre Bird Observatory ( pop . 2 – us !) is on the coast , 50km South of Cocklebiddy ( pop . 14 ). Cocklebiddy is 400km East of Norseman , which is 750km East of Perth .
You may see or hear Eyre on weather reports . During this time , it will be us taking the weather readings . We also have to do daily bird counts , maintain the place , pick up the weekly shopping from Cocklebiddy , and look after up to 8 guests , including cooking , etc . It should be fun , but not everyone ' s cup of tea ...
