Talent & Ideas : Diyaan
Diyaan is a venture which delivers
affordable luxury that can be customized for the Indian audience without
compromising on quality, craftsmanship, transparency, design and style. We
interviewed the young and fun-loving
entrepreneur –
Priyank Shah
What motivated you? What motivates you
now?
The beginning. Tell us something about you
and your business.
The idea of being entrepreneurial by taking the existing diamond jewellery manufacturing and
wholesaling family business online cropped up early in 2012. The main idea was to create a go-to diamond jewellery brand Diyaan. People in general
love the idea to celebrate. We as Indians, whatever
the occasion or reason, small or big, love to celebrate. Hence the underlying theme and brand essence of Diyaan is celebration that resonates universally across all age groups and at all times.
Why do you do what you do?
So that I don’t have to do anything eventually and
be vella. *laughs* I want to put into place highly
efficient people-processes and systems and get out
of the picture completely. I often ask myself what is
my ultimate goal and why I am I doing all of this.
The answer is simple. I want to have fun, be happy
and spread the vibe to people around me. It’s more
important to enjoy the journey rather than just
achieve goals. I don’t deny generating profits is an
essential aspect of business but I want to channel
the earnings sooner or later into doing things that
are extremely gratifying to me like educating kids,
empowering women, entertaining the unprivileged,
any act of giving.. even farming.
Two things.
Well firstly as I said the commercial aspect is
exciting and given that India is opening up and
accepting the idea of online trading; with increasing Internet penetration, the entry of foreign players and investments it would be an interesting mix and a challenge to position the
brand. The other motivation is daily life. I observe people and things through everyday life
where I get my daily doze of motivation, inspiration and ideas from the little things.
Who is your role model, and why?
I don’t have anyone specific in mind. My parents have been very supportive. I love to imbibe
the best from anyone and everyone through my
experiences and implement the best practises
and takeaways.
What is your philosophy towards your
work?
I don’t really have a fixed philosophy or a set of
rules or method. If you see me working its pretty chaotic and messed up. It’s round the clock
and sometimes not at all. Today every industry,
company and brand is looking towards data and
making data-driven ROI focussed decisions
(which I completely vouch for) but I am more
driven by instinct and spontaneity. I love to
connect things.
