Volume 1, Issue 1, January 2015 | Page 3

Welcome to Obscure Adventures Magazine, the home for strange and unique sporting opportunities. In these pages we'll explore hunting and fishing opportunities that are enjoyed by many, but often don't get the same exposure as more mainstream pursuits. For example, you will not find any articles in these pages about hunting for big game animals like deer, bear, moose, etc..., or for popular fish species like bass, walleye, or trout. Instead, you will read about taking freshwater rough fish species like carp, gar, and buffalo through trad-itional hook and line, as well as alternative methods, like bowfishing, spearing and spearfishing. We'll also feature saltwater species like stingrays, tilapia, redfish and sharks. On the hunting front, we'll feature articles on alligators, crows, nutria, prairie dogs, etc...

Our features will introduce you to concepts and techniques that will help you understand how to get started in these adventures, either from scratch, or with the help of seasoned guides. We'll highlight some of the best locations around the United States to explore these opportunities. We'll also spotlight the best equipment to help you be successful.

In our Regional Reports we'll bring news from around the country, including special events, laws and rule changes, tournament information, and results. there are many grass-roots groups across the country that share our passions.

You should expect this publication to focus on putting unique opportunites at your fingertips and give you information that is timely and relevant. We ask our readers to share their own personal successes and interesting exploits. Additionally, we will make every effort to thoroughly answer questions posed to us by our readers.

I hope you enjoy this inaugural issue of Obscure Adventures Magazine. One of our driving passions is the sport of bowfishing and the growth in the sport shows how popular and addicting it is. Our first issue dives into areas that many newer bowfishers often have questions about, especially after they've taken a few shots from their own boats. There are always upgrades that can be made and in this issue we talk about building a pusher fan setup and using spincast reels. We'll introduce the Bay of Green Bay in Wisconsin as a prime destination and we'll sort through the common species of redhorse suckers to give you enough information to aid in on the water identification and hopeully help protect some threatened species. Thanks for reading and enjoy!
