September 20, 2015 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time Views From The Pews Angel writes, “What is the day of families that Pope Francis will visit when he’s here in the U.S.? Can you tell me about it?” “Sure. It’s actually the ‘World Meeting of Families Congress’. The World Meeting of Families (WMOF) occurs every three years in a different, largely Catholic, city. The Congress will meet this year in Philadelphia, and it will be the first time the WMOF will be held in America. The Congress is a full week of celebration, discussion and learning. The highlight of this year’s WMOF will be the closing Mass. Pope Francis will be the celebrant. So, watch the late news September 25th or the early news on the 26th. The Mass doesn’t begin until six in the evening. I’m confident the networks will cover it. It’s a big deal.” Carol writes, “My son loves it when you have coffee and doughnuts. I have to hold him down to two or three. He just keeps going back. Thank you.” “Thanks belong to our wonderful Hospitality Ministry. I too love donuts but I’m afraid that, at my age, three donuts would cause me to gain three pounds. So, I restrict myself to one.” Father Mike Annulment Writing Workshop Family Life Apostolate will offer a writing workshop for persons seeking an annulment in the Catholic Church or for persons responding to an annulment. The workshop will be held at St. Clement of Rome’s Parish Center in Metairie. The series will be for three (3) Saturdays, October 24, October 31 and November 7, 2015. Hours are 8:30am until Noon. The materials for the series cost $25.00. To register or for more information, call Cathy @ Family Life Apostolate at 861-6243. Respect Life Sunday, October 4th 2 Did You Know? Pope Francis will speak mostly his Native Spanish during the majority of his stops in the U.S. The only speech that I know will be fully in English will be his speech to the joint session of Congress (September 24). Don’t worry, however. The Pope will speak some English everywhere, and the networks will have someone translate for us when he speaks Spanish. Pope Francis’ address to Congress will be the first time a Pope has ever addressed our Congress. Pope Francis will visit a prison during his trip to Philadelphia. He will sit in a special chair made for him by the prisoners. On September 23rd, the Pope will make history when he canonizes Blessed Junipero Serra during his Mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C. It will be the first canonization to take place on American soil. Junipreo Serra, a Franciscan, established nine California communities from San Diego to San Francisco during the 18th century. Father Mike 40 Days for Life You are invited to get involved in the 40 Days for Life New Orleans campaign September 23 through November 1, 2015. 40 Days for Life is a national pro-life campaign that consists of 40 days of prayer, fasting, and community outreach for an end to abor tion. We will pr ay the “Prayer to End Abortion” during this campaign at the end of each mass celebrated here at Visitation. You may also pickup a copy of the prayer card from the vestibule of the Church to take home. In our hometown, there will be a constant peaceful and prayerful vigil outside of Louisiana’s largest abortion facility, Causeway Medical Center, at 3044 Ridgelake Drive in Metairie near Lakeside Mall. Our parish has signed up to keep a prayerful vigil at the abortion facility on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. We need 2 people per hour to fill the day from 7a.m. – 7p.m. Please contact Anna A. Jouandot, Respect Life Coordinator, at 340-3319 or [email protected] if you can sign up on this day for one hour of prayer time in front of the abortion facility.
