Did You Know?
Anonymous writes, “Bulletin showed
$25,000. Video showed $17,000. Big
difference. Why?”
“At first, I was puzzled by this cryptic
note. But, with help from the staff, I believe we have
deciphered it correctly. Anonymous is asking about our
gift to Harvey Victims in Houston.
I originally
announced we had raised $25,000 from a second
collection and from our BBQ Cookoff profits. But,
when we posted on Facebook the video of the actual
transfer of the check to the people of St. Bartholomew
Parish in Katy, Texas, we gave them a $17,000 check.
Why was the check $8,000 smaller? Well, because the
chairperson of the Cookoff had not accounted for $8,000
worth of bills when she guesstimated profit. So, our
Cookoff profit and, consequently, our gift to the Harvey
victims was $8,000 less than we had originally thought.”

In a major talk he gave October 11th, Pope Francis
said he believes the death penalty is contrary to the
Gospel. Pope Francis said the death penalty is an
“inhuman measure that humiliates personal dignity.”
The Pope went on to say that a revision of the Catechism
of the Catholic Church, which would define the death
penalty as contrary to the Gospel, may be imminent.

Book of the Dead
During the month of November we will remember our deceased in a special way. A Book of the Dead will be accessi-
ble in the vestibule for parishioners to write the names of beloved deceased relatives for whom they would like us to
pray. The book will be brought up during the offertory procession and placed on a small table in front of the altar for the
duration of Mass. After Mass, it will be returned to the podium in the vestibule for continued use.
