I saved from last week a second question
from Anonymous. Last week I responded
to his question about Pope Francis’ call for
an end to the death penalty. This week, I
will respond to the second question.
“What will the Church do if the Supreme Court upholds
the state laws that allow same sex marriage? I hope they
fight it big time. I fully believe God wants marriage to be
only between a man and a woman.”
“I don’t know. The church has not announced
what it would do if same sex marriage laws are allowed
to stand. However, I suspect the Church would follow
the example it has set in opposing abortion laws.
Continue to fight to have the laws overturned, hate the
sin, and love the sinner.”

Because the Archdiocese has mandated that, next year,
all 8th grades be taken from grade schools and assigned
to high schools, Visitation of Our Lady will lose 110
students, 58 seventh graders, and 52 eighth graders. Of
the 58 seventh graders, 52 have chosen to go to Catholic
high schools. Of the 52 eight graders, 49 have chosen
Catholic high schools. That is a remarkably high and
gratifying 92% It is a testament to Principal Carolyn
Levet, her staff and teachers. If you see any of them,
please thank them.

Advent is a time for us to be vigilant for the Son of
Man is coming near. As we prepare for his coming we
ask the Lord to strengthen us with the grace to repent.
Thus, we may be found pure and without sin.

In this first week of Advent, let us look for ways we
might offer penances for our sins apart from those
assigned in confession. Examples: skipping a cup of
coffee and giving money to the St. Vincent de Paul,
taking an extra minute in the morning to offer a prayer
for someone we have hurt, forgoing dessert for this week
for a particular intention. Whatever we choose let us be
intentional this year about making room for the King.
