First Sunday of Advent
Views From The Pews
Anonymous says, “Padre, don’t you dare
give any money to help bring over Syrian
refugees. As usual, Obama’s ideas are
foolish and dangerous.”
“At the moment, VOL has no plans to help
Syrian refugees. However, I bring to your attention
what Pope Francis says on the subject. Our Holy Father
says we must be very careful not to combat evil by
refusing to do what Jesus commands. Jesus says help
the needy, even when it is dangerous to do so. Pope
Francis says we must avoid, in responding to evil people,
becoming evil people ourselves.”
Alice says, “You keep talking about the I Give Catholic
program but you have never said how to give to it and
what the money would be used for.”
“I Give Catholic will take place this coming
Tuesday, December 1st. It starts at midnight. Go online
to #I Give Catholic and follow the prompts. They’re
simple. Make a minimum donation of $25. As always,
your gift would be tax deductible. The money would be
used at VOL to install a Security System in church, in
the Pastoral Center and in the rectory. The Jefferson
Parish Sheriff’s Office recently inspected our campus
and concluded we are way below minimum standards. If
you want more info, give me a call at 347-2203.”
