Did You Know?
Anonymous writes, “I saw you at West
Jefferson Hospital. You were rude. I
expected you to say hello but you just
ignored me.”
“I apologize. I may have been rushing to do a Last
Rites. My habit at West Jeff is to greet everyone I see,
most of whom are people I don’t know. So, for whatever
reason, I didn’t see you. Again, I’m sorry.”

Holy Day of Obligation
Thursday, December 8th, is the Feast
of the Immaculate Conception of the
Blessed Virgin Mary and IS a Holy Day of
Obligation.
Masses on this Feast Day will be celebrated at 7 a.m.,
8:30 a.m., & 12:15 p.m. A Vigil Mass will also be
celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7th.
Please take your obligation seriously.
The more educated a Catholic is, the less likely he or
she is to believe the Bible should be taken literally, word
for word. Thirty percent of American Catholics who have
no formal Catholic education believe everything in the
Bible is literally true. The number drops to 15% for
Catholics who went to Catholic grade and high schools.
Only 7% of Catholics who attended a Catholic college or
university believe all of the Bible is literally true.
The Church teaches that everything in the Bible
teaches “truth,” but some of the Bible is poetry and/or
designed to teach truth but is not factually history. The
psalms and Jesus’ parables are examples.

Book of the Dead
During the month of November
we are remembering our deceased
in a special way. A Book of the
Dead will be accessible each weekend in the vestibule for
parishioners to write the names of beloved deceased
relatives for whom they would like us to pray. The book
will be brought up at the offertory procession and placed on
a small table in front of the altar for the duration of Mass.
After Mass, it will be returned to the podium in the
vestibule for continued use.

The priests of the West Bank Deanery of the
Archdiocese will hold 3 communal penance services
during the Advent season to help lead God’s people to
“prepare the way of the Lord” by the worthy
reception of the Sacrament of Penance.
All Catholics are encouraged to attend one of these
Advent Penance Services and avail themselves of the
grace of this wonderful sacrament of renewal and
reconciliation in preparation for the birth of our
S avior.
